The Tan

I was very happy with my efforts yesterday as I achieved my goal of running for 45minute 😀   I wanted to run at around a 7 min per km pace and ended up doing 6.5km in total, so was really happy with that.  The great thing was when I finished run, which included Anderson Street hill towards end, I felt as though I could have kept going and that has done a lot for my confidence.  My next “long” run was suppose to be an increase of 5mins but I think I may increase by 10 min and aim for 8km in that time.  I think that should be alright in terms of treating this old body of mine nice 🙄    If all goes to plan, I should be running around 1 hour 20-30 minutes two weeks before Run 4 Kids and then I can taper back the week before.

It was so nice to run down the Tan and I think this is one of the keys to great running, mixing it up if you can.  Now that the kids are almost back at school, I should be able to move away from so many boring street runs.

Weighed myself this morning and almost had a coronary on the scales, I need to lose 4-6kgs and I am damn well going to do it!!  I am going to give myself today and tomorrow to get organised, and not stress too much about it, but come Wednesday and it is D Day to start eating “properly” again.

Willy Beach and a Run

Hubby and I took the kids to Williamstown beach this afternoon and I decided because I have done so much with them during hols, I deserved to run down there 😉  It was really nice running along the foreshore and although warm, 29-30 degrees, it was a real tranquil run.  I ran my scheduled 30 minutes and then met up with the family on the beach for a game of beach cricket.  We only played for about 15 minutes because our 4 year old spat the dummy and took off with the wickets, spoil sport!  The kids then went splashing and swimming for a bit and we then built some sand castles.  A very fulfilling afternoon as well as productive for me 🙂

I am going to have a crack at running for 45 minutes on Sunday and hopefully I will be able to last the distance.  My run felt so good today and I can feel my confidence returning once again.  Run 4 Kids is loomimg up so I feel as though I don’t have any room for missed runs now.  Should definitely not be a problem for me from February when kids are well and truly back into the swing of things 😀

The End is Near

Well I am afraid the flurry of activity is still going on in this household due to school holidays but the end is near!  I found myself at Funfields today and we had a ball.  The highlight for me was the go-karts.  I have never been on them before and because my son is only 9, I had to drive him, what a flipping hoot!!!  I think he was a little embarrassed by my behaviour as I kept squeeling like a girl and laughing my head off 😆    Have to say I am a little tired now and I happy to say the kids looked stuffed, hopefully an early night for the two of them.

I have been able to get some consistant running in since last entry but not much else I am afraid.  I am up for a 45 minute run on Sunday and am hoping to do that down the Tan, not sure I will be able to “escape” but I am going to try my best 🙄   I have changed my approach once again and have decided to build long run up on time.

17 More Days

A quick blog for me today as I am getting organised for our stay at Phillip Island 😀  We leave tomorrow with RJ and her boys for a couple of days, yahooo!

No running for me since Princes Park 😦  It is just impossible to get on any sort of roll at the moment.  Although I am loving being in holiday mode, I don’t think I want to see this stomach of mind protruding 100 miles in front of me any more!!!  I have to get back into consistent exercise and better eating patterns.  17 more days for school holidays to end, not that I am counting 😉

I am secretly hoping I can run 5km today later on sometime and then maybe if I twist RJ’s arm, I can get a run in at Phillip Island.  I have a sneaky feeling she is probably thinking about twisting mine so she can get out as well.  Oh, the joys of motherhood!!

My Old Friend

I met up with an old friend yesterday who I hadn’t seen in awhile…….Princes Park!!!  I had about 2 and half hours children free as hubby took the kids off to the arcade games.  I had to make the very hard decision whether to do house work or run at PP, hhhmmmm, 0.5secs later I was dressed and in the car zooming to Princes Park 😆

I ran 5km and loved every minute of it 😀  I have missed PP!  It was so nice to be running and taking in my surroundings.  Everytime I ran along that shady Royal Parade section, the smell of the pine needles was beautiful.  Also being out with other runners was good.  When I got home I also took the opportunity to do weights and core exercises, and there was even time for me to do a quick tidy up of house.  Very happy with that morning 🙂   The plan for me today is to jump on the x-trainer and do 30 minutes.  Hopefully I will be able to slot that in somewhere.

Yes Andrew, that is $35 a session with three people in the group.  I did enquire a while back at another place and it was about the same.  I do have another couple of places to call so I will see how that shapes up.  RJ offered the suggestion of contacting Physios as she thinks some of them may run classes so I may investigate that avenue.  I certainly won’t be paying $35 a class, that is just plain ludicrous!

Its going to be hot today and I think I might take the kids to the local pool and swim with every other kid in the neighbourhood.  I wish the kids could take a leaf out of my book and just enjoy lolling around watching dvd’s 😆

The Week that Was

Long time no blog!  I have been filling my days with a flurry of school holiday activities so haven’t really had the chance to blog my exercise.

We had a wonderful day down the Mornington Pininsula yesterday with RJ and family.  A very full day which included a barbeque, beach and dinner.  We finally got home at 10.30pm and consequently am having a lazy day around the house today.  Have my 7 year nephew coming tomorrow to stay for a few days and I think we will hit the pictures and probably go to local pool as I think it will be heating up again over next few days.  Next week we are planning to go to Phillip Island and with a bit of luck we will be able to book a couple of nights accomodation and stay.  If we can’t we will just go for a day trip.  It really is all about keeping these kids of ours occupied so they don’t drive us bananas 😆

Last week I don’t know how I have done it but I managed to fit in all sceduled exercise all but one run. I have x-trained, done weights, core exercises and did two runs.  Pretty pleased with that effort and hopefully I will be able to do the same this week.  Might be a little trickier but I will see how I go.  The biggest motivator for me is wanting to be strong for Run for Kids 14km at the end of March.  Although I completed it and loved this run last year, I definitely don’t want to be running out of steam in the last 2-3kms again.

I finally heard back from Sporting Spirit as I had emailed them regarding runs at Princess Park.  They currently have runs at 6am but of course that time is not suitable for me.  I emailed Brian asking him if there were any planned evening sessions and they plan to start some in February.  I would love it, love it, love it if I could get down there and do some runs casually with them.  They are earlier in the evening which is better for me so I am really going to try and to do this 🙂

I also made an enquiry into doing some Group Pilates sessions, omg $35  a pop!!  As much as I want to do these, I am not sure I can justify that cost.  I will keep looking and see if I can find something a little cheaper.

2008 – Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone!!  A day late but nevertheless it is now 2008.  We had a very pleasant, apart from the sweltering heat, sensible, kids do that to you, News Years Eve at RJ’s house.  We arrived at 5.30pm and left after 1am.  We sat around sipping champagne and then later on had a great meal.  Played Singstar 8o’s on the playstation and had an absolute hoot, I think the champagne had kicked in by then.  The kids got sick of RJ and I hogging the microphones and competing against each other that we actually found ourselves playing it by ourselves 😳   Great night had by all and we saw the New Year in loitering at the local park waiting for the backyard fireworks to go off and we were not disappointed.  By that stage I think anything would have impressed us 😆

Now, reflections on 2007, hhhmmm……  My first goal was to run Run 4 the Kids which I did complete with niggles and all.  Entered a few other runs which I honestly can’t be bother looking up but I think I am relatively happy with my achievements as they were all 8km and 10km events, double the distance from the year before.  I know there were a few runs that didn’t actually eventuate due to car and babysitting issues 😡   I went of the rails following the death of my Dad in August.  I still can’t fecking believe it and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him 😦   I did run the 10km MM thanks to Jaykay.  If I didn’t run with her that day, I probaly wouldn’t have rocked up at all, so thanks for that Jaykay 🙂   My last run for 2007 was the Spring into Shape 8km the week after and then that was that.  I sort of dilly daddled around and lost my motivation.

I think 2008 should be a better year for me in terms of consistency in my running because pesky 4year old is off to kinder.  I have very mixed feelings about that.  On one hand I am extemely excited as I can have running time without hassle but I am so nervous about how he will go as he is a bit of a handful and also because of his speech issues.  I also will be returning to the workforce which will be good but will also be weird as this is the longest I haven’t worked, 4 years all up.  I sent of my registration papers to the Nurses board just before Christmas so will sort out where and what to apply for once that is all done.

So what are my goals for 2008?  To stay injury free, build up core strength again which feels totally non-existent at the moment, weight training twice a week, continue running 3 times a week and x-train.  I am also going to investigate some Pilate classes not attached to gym.  Of course I will try and build this into my family life and try and maintain a happy medium, wish me luck on that one 😉   I am also going to lose 3-4kgs 😆

In terms of events, my two major runs will be Run for Kids again which I have started training for and I will do a Half Marathon.  More than likely it will be the Melbourne Marathon but nothing is set in stone.  I feel optimistic in actually making it to a few more events as we finally bit the bullet and I now have my own car 😀   So the only issue I will have to contend with are my two lovable pesky children 😆   Hubby has said it won’t be a problem to drop them in at work with him if I have to and I have a sneaky feeling I will be taking him up on that offer 😉

I just want to finish up and thank everyone for your comments over the past year and I have loved reading your blogs as well.  Even though I can’t always comment due to the computer hogs in this family, I do keep my finger on the pulse and read them all.  I find reading them really inspirational and often find you give me food for thought, along with the laughs that I often have.  It has also been awesome meeting some of you guys and I hope to catch up again in 2008.  Good luck to you all in achieving your dreams and of course all your running goals 😀
