Returning to Normality

I am suppose to be catching up on my pile of chores but decided before I really get into it I would do a quick blog.

It was a flurry of activity pre and post Christmas, and today is the first day where I feel as though things can return to normal, well as best as they can in school holidays.  I have done no execise for 2 weeks unless you count the power walking through the shops like a mad woman before Christmas!!  The funny thing is I was so busy, I actually thought it was still only a week since my last run 😯

Anyway in a nutshell, I don’t see myself really getting back into running until next week.  I do have a epiliptical trainer that I hired so I will try and jump on that the next following days and at least that will be something.  The thing is, now that I have had this break from running, I am a bit nervous to run again as I am scared as to how it will feel bodywise not to mention my level of fitness now.  The other thing is my hip and the pain in the ball of my foot have settled somewhat from the “rest”.  I think I will definitely have to go back to Podiatrist and see if he thinks it is the orthotics and if not, well I just don’t know who to go to.  The Physio was at a loss as to what the hip pain was due to.  I thought the exercises she gave helped me but I just don’t know???

I have been thinking about my goals for 2008 but to be quite honest I think I need to get my chores done before I can get into that 😆

Silly No Exercise Season

ramblings

I can’t believe it is Friday and it is nearly a week ago when I last ran!  I was going to try and get out this morning but have to say I felt a little hung over 😳   We didn’t go anywhere flash last night, we just christened the new family barbeque and I had one to many sav blanc’s to celebrate.  It was so nice and relaxing but I am afraid it doesn’t take much for me to feel like crap the next day especially when you combine it with lack of sleep.

Went and did a bit of Christmas/Birthday present shopping finally this morning and was mighty pleased with my efforts.  Finished the Birthday shopping and I should be able to finish off Chrissy shopping early next week.  We have three Birthdays next week, my niece and nephew (twins) who will be turning 10 on Monday and our Master 3 who will be turning 4 on Tuesday.  He has gone to the next level in cheekiness/naughtiness if that is at all possible!  This year, he is making it his personal mission to send me around the bend by knocking of the Christmas decorations with his foot every time he passes the damn Christmas tree!  I have started putting the baubles that end up on the floor into a box and the tree is starting to look quite bear on one side, ggrrr!  Needless to say, the Santa sacks that were hanging from the lounge mantel are now back in the cupboard.  Being a Virgo, I painstakingly decorated the tree to perfection and now it just looks ridiculous, pesky 3 nearly 4 year old!!

I have changed the face of my blog in preparation for my consistant training in 2008 😉   I did exactly the same this time last year when I changed from blogger to wordpress and if I am correct it was Em who started that chain.  Well, I had planned for a fresher look in 2008 and after seeing Em’s, I couldn’t wait 😆

running

I am going to try and get out later this evening and run an easy 4-5km as it is quite hot.  I have been drinking lots of fluid to rehydrate myself so I don’t cark it 😆   If I can run tonight then I can run Sunday which means I have squeezed in two runs for the week and in my book thats better than nothing!

*Edit*  Just went for that run, OMG, what a slog it was.  I only managed 4.5km and had to walk parts of it 😳   The sun was beating down on me and I was looking for garden taps so I could sneak a drink.  Roll on Sunday for a better run.

running unplugged

running

I have been running just haven’t had a chance to blog about it.  It has been a bit chaotic around here and unfortunately it is only going to get worse as I am going to start my Christmas shopping this week 😯    Every year I say I am going to be more organised but I never am!!

At the moment I have been aiming for three 5-6km runs a week but only managed to do two last week and two this week.  Have to say though, I feel as though my form is back and I am feeling pretty happy about that.  Today I actually ran 5.5km and including warm-up and cool-down I covered about 6.5km.  I felt fantabulous today and felt as though I could have ran a longer but I am going to stick to my plan.  I figure at the moment if I can keep running a solid 5-6km’s 2-3 times a week in the month of December, and then start building up km’s at the start of January, I will be happy with that.  I was initially going to start building km’s now but I will only be setting myself for disappointment if I can’t get out there.

I have been experiencing a bit of lower back pain and I think, but am not sure that it may be because all my runs have been on the pavement.  Today I incorporated two laps of the local football oval and I do think it made a difference.  I miss getting down to the Tan or Princess Park but it won’t be long until all the madness is over and I can return to some kind of normality.  I keep meaning to find some lowerback strengthening exercises or stretches on the internet because I think I need to do something along those lines.

ramblings

Today we went to Guitar World to pick out our son’s guitar that we promised him for Christmas as he is starting lessons next year.   Have to say I was really excited about this as I use to play the guitar many moons ago and loved it.  Anyway, we picked out a nice acoustic electric guitar and it totally rocks.  Somehow I get the feeling that at our household there  are going to be a lot  sessions of “Lee plays unplugged” 😆    I love it how we live through our children 😉

Bike, Run and Swim in the Shower

I didn’t get out for that run yesterday and it was really looking as though I wasn’t going to get out today either.  So about 6pm because the kids were playing outside, that is between all the fighting, I thought I would jump on my Spin bike which is also outside and try and do 30minutes.  I hit the 26 minute mark and hubby presents himself so I decided to jump off bike and go for my 3.2km run 😯   Have to say the legs were a bit wobbly as I walked out the front door so decided to walk to end of street until they settled and then start running.  Legs felt great after that!  They were very nicely warmed up.  So all in all I did a 26 minute bike ride with intervals and then my scheduled 3.2km run.  When I got home I had sweat pouring off me so jumped in the shower but have to say I would have killed for a nice dive into a pool 🙂

Tomorrow I would like to head down and do Yoga in the Park but really don’t like my chances of getting to that but we will see.  We have the first of five family Birthdays to celebrate tomorrow and I am pretty sure my calories are going to go through the roof.  I am definitely not expecting a loss when I weigh in on Monday even though I have been trying to stick with it.  Hopefully week 2 will be better 🙄
